Apprendre l’arabe: study Arabic step by step on your phone

Apprendre l’arabe is an Arabic learning app for Android that follows the French school programme from 6ème (Grade 6) to Terminale (Grade 12). It combines lessons, worksheets, quizzes with sound and tests marked out of 20.

Arabic has a very regular structure of letters, forms and patterns. This app lets you explore that structure in small chapters, hear every word, and see your progress build up on your own phone.

At a glance

  • Platform: Android
  • Levels: 6ème (Grade 6) to Terminale (Grade 12)
  • Alphabet: 28 letters, four forms, audio
  • Content language: French
  • Account: none required
  • Advertising: none

Getting started in five steps

  1. Install the app on your Android phone or tablet. No account has to be created.
  2. Open the alphabet section first. Learn the 28 letters, look at their four forms and play the pronunciation of each one.
  3. Choose your level, from 6ème (Grade 6) up to Terminale (Grade 12), then pick a chapter.
  4. Read the lesson. Tap any Arabic word to hear it spoken.
  5. Work through the worksheet, then try the quiz and, when you feel ready, the graded test.

Each step is short on purpose. A chapter takes only a few minutes, so you can fit it between two classes or on a train journey, and the app remembers where you stopped. Keep the first week light: the alphabet and the listening questions give you a solid base before grammar tables appear.

What the Arabic learning app contains

  • Lessons with vocalised examples, transliteration, tables and diagrams.
  • Progressive worksheets for each level.
  • Quizzes with sounds, colours, a final mark and advice, including questions where you listen to a word before answering.
  • Tests marked out of 20, to practise as in class.
  • The Arabic alphabet: 28 letters, their four forms and audio pronunciation.

The chapters follow the official programme and cover writing and reading, grammar, conjugation, vocabulary, expression, comprehension and culture.

Who it is for

The app is written for French school pupils, so the menus and explanations are in French. It suits middle and high school learners, and also adults who want a structured path and are comfortable reading French instructions. If you read English only, use it alongside a bilingual dictionary and focus on the alphabet and listening sections, which rely mostly on sound.

Why a science site recommends it

Learning a language is a good exercise in the scientific method. You observe patterns, form a rule, test it on new words and check the result. Arabic rewards this approach, because letters join in predictable ways and verbs follow tables that you can learn like a periodic table. Many everyday science words in English, such as algebra or alkali, also come from Arabic, which makes the language a natural companion to physics and chemistry.

On our English homepage you will find the physics and chemistry resources of this site, which you can study in parallel.

The vocalised examples are useful for beginners, because the short vowel marks show exactly how a word is read. The transliteration helps at the very start, and you can then rely on it less as the Arabic script becomes familiar. Tables for grammar and conjugation turn rules into something you can scan quickly, the same way a chart of units or a table of constants works in physics.

Tips to study like a lab notebook

  • Before each quiz, write down the mark you expect. Compare it with the real result and note the gap.
  • Keep a favourites list of words that you keep missing, then retest them a few days later.
  • Study in short sessions. Your chapters done, best marks and favourites are saved on the device, so you can stop at any time.

Detailed answer keys and printable PDF sheets are available on the Arabic PDF website, which can be opened from inside the app.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app to learn Arabic from the alphabet to high school level?

Yes. Apprendre l'arabe is an Android app that starts with the 28 letters and their four forms, then follows the school programme from 6ème (Grade 6) to Terminale (Grade 12) with lessons, worksheets, quizzes and tests marked out of 20.

Can I hear the pronunciation of Arabic words in the app?

Yes. Each letter of the alphabet has an audio pronunciation, and in the lessons you can tap an Arabic word to hear it spoken. Some quiz questions also play a word first, so you answer by listening rather than by reading.

Does Apprendre l'arabe need an account or show ads?

No. You do not create an account and the app contains no advertising. Your progress, meaning finished chapters, best marks and favourites, is stored on your own device, so nothing needs to be sent anywhere to keep it.

Is the Arabic app in English?

The menus and explanations are in French, because the app follows the French school programme. The alphabet and listening exercises rely on sound, so they remain usable for English speakers who accept reading French instructions.
