Sciences physiques: your physics and chemistry course on a phone

Sciences physiques is a physics and chemistry app for Android that gathers the whole French programme from 6ème (Grade 6) to Terminale (Grade 12). It has illustrated lessons, problem sets, practical work, quizzes, tests and a formula memo.

It is the mobile companion of this website. The app has no advertising and asks for no registration, and it keeps your progress on the phone itself. Everything can be used in short sessions between two classes.

At a glance

  • Platform: Android
  • Levels: 6ème (Grade 6) to Terminale (Grade 12)
  • Content: lessons, 20 problems per chapter, lab work, quizzes, tests
  • Language of the lessons: French

First steps with the app

  1. Install the app on an Android phone or tablet. There is nothing to sign up for.
  2. Choose your level, for example 3ème (Grade 9) or Terminale (Grade 12).
  3. Open a chapter and read the lesson, its diagrams and the formulas to remember.
  4. Follow the worked examples, then attempt the problems of the chapter.
  5. Finish with the 10-question quiz and read the explanation of each answer.

What you find inside the physics and chemistry app

  • Illustrated lessons with diagrams, solved examples and formulas to remember.
  • 20 problems per chapter, with graphs and documents to analyse.
  • Practical work (called TP in France) with a protocol, the equipment list and measurements.
  • Quizzes of 10 questions with immediate correction, explanations and sounds.
  • Tests and mock papers for the brevet, the French exam taken at the end of 3ème (Grade 9).
  • A formula memo, and access to the virtual laboratory of the website: Ohm’s law, refraction, lenses, pH and the periodic table.

Plan about twenty minutes per chapter at first: ten for the lesson, ten for the problems. The formulas to remember are listed in each lesson, so you can check units as you go. That small habit prevents most calculation errors in physics and chemistry.

Programme covered

At middle school the app covers matter, motion, energy, electricity, light and signals. At high school it moves on to the mole, waves, forces and chemistry, including the physics-chemistry specialty in 1ère (Grade 11) and Terminale (Grade 12).

Each chapter is built like a short experiment: a question, the theory, a worked case, then your own measurements and problems. The documents and graphs that come with the problems train a skill that exams reward, which is reading data before writing an answer. Practical work pages also teach how to organise a protocol, list equipment and record results in order.

Who it is for

The app suits pupils who follow the French programme and learners who want a clear path through physics and chemistry. The lessons are written in French, in line with the curriculum. If you read English, the English books and tools of this website are the place to start, and the app then becomes a way to practise French science vocabulary.

How the app links to this site

The app is designed to be used with the website. Detailed answer keys, printable PDF sheets and books are published on the site, and the virtual lab opens from the app. Browse the science books or try the virtual lab from a computer.

Working like a scientist

  • Before a practical work page, predict the result, then compare it with the measurements given.
  • When you read a graph, name the quantity and the unit on each axis before drawing any conclusion.
  • Mark favourites for the formulas you forget, and revisit them before each test.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Android app for physics and chemistry from 6ème to Terminale?
